Speech by World Bank Group President David Malpass : Driving Growth from the Ground Up (西班牙语)

These remarks were delivered by David Malpass, President of the World Bank Group, at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada on October 7, 2019. He spoke about how McGill University has embodied the spirit of innovation for nearly two-hundred years. He discussed about the urgency of growth in developing countries and his worry that the combination of extended weakness in Europe's economy and in developing-country investment is weighing heavily on the outlook for the rapidly-growing populations in several developing countries. He declared that the Bank had almost at the point of having secure systems that would allow poor people to electronically receive remittances, foreign aid, and social safety-net payments as well as their earnings, and then be allowed to save and transact freely. He cautioned about the slow global growth, and it's paramount that countries carry out well-designed structural reforms to ignite domestic growth. He highlighted on the importance of a clear analysis and understanding of a country's laws and regulations and a path of reforms or catalytic investments that will expand the private sector. Finally, he concluded by saying that Bank's main focus is on the practical in-country approaches and actions that was discussed, and to put direct priority on alleviating poverty and boosting shared prosperity.
