China - Second Liao River Basin Project : environmental impact assessment : Environmental assessment (英语)

The Second Liao River Basin Project will support construction of wastewater interception and treatment facilities in order to improve the water quality of the river basin. This environmental impact assessment discusses the adverse environmental impacts of the project and the mitigation measures to reduce such impacts. During construction, loud noise-making equipment should be operated at restricted schedules. Air-borne dust, created by construction activities such as land leveling, piling, excavation, will be reduced by spraying water at the sites. Construction wastes will be disposed of properly. Some wastes will be collected for reuse, for backfill, or for landfill. It is projected that there may foul odor resulting from the operation of the wastewater treatment plant. Measures to control odor will be enforced to mitigate such impact. To mitigate such impact, main odor sources will be located far away from residential areas. Trees which absorb odor will be planted around the treatment plant. Dust and flue gas may result from boilers in operation. Dust traps will be installed and high chimneys will be used. During operation, noise monitoring points will be established at pumping stations and treatment plant sites to control noise pollution.
