The Government started several large infrastructure projects to allowthe population to move from small, vulnerable islands to Greater Malé.To make space for these investments, the government is reducing current expenditure. As a result, in the medium term, construction is expectedto remain the main driver of growth with large current account deficits financed by investment and infrastructure loans.
