This paper demonstrates how the World Bank Group entities contribute to minerals sector development in developing member countries. It explains the various modalities employed by Bank Group entities - such as ongoing sector policy dialogue, formulation of minerals sector technical assistance packages, project financing and long-term political risk coverage - which, individually or in concert, can provide a substantial contribution to sustainable mineral sector development in World Bank member countries. The paper also provides a useful summary of the essential elements of a modern mining code as a working tool for country lawyers and task managers who are involved in mineral sector development projects.
