This Additional Financing for the Electricity Sector Support Project of Burkino Faso seeks to capitalize on the results of the Project for Development of Electricity (PDSE) and the Project for Access to Energy Services (PAES), whereby the Government with the support of the World Bank initiated a project which aims at strengthening the assets of the projects: the Burkina Faso Electricity Sector Support Project. The development objective is to strengthen the SONABEL's capacity of electricity production and distribution, and to increase the rural population access to electricity. The objectives outputs of the additional financing do not differ from the project ones. The original project's PDOs are to contribute to: (i) increasing access to electricity, (ii) improving the reliability of electricity supply; and (iii) improving efficient use of energy in targeted areas. Therefore, the expected environmental and social risks and impacts remain the same. The activities planned in the framework of the project bring advantages to the populations in terms of improvement of their environment, their incomes and consequently, their standard of living. However, the project may also entail negative impacts on the population and environment. This project will have an impact on people, their property and their environment due to the realization of the electrical infrastructure and equipment which accompany them: the population displacement, loss of activities, loss of means of production (land and supporting infrastructure to production), loss of income sources or livelihoods.
